12.03.14 MAC

We at 2:59 Records are saddened beyond belief about the passing of our friend, Ian McLagan. It was an honor to be a small part of your mind-blowing musical career, Mac. Thank you for the good times. When The Crying Is Over

02.11.14 TUESDAY TUNE DAY - IAN MCLAGAN - "I'M HOT, YOU'RE COOL"

"I'm Hot, You're Cool" by Ian McLagan - If you want to see a music legend (and simply an all-around great guy) up close and personal, go check out a live Mac show. The RnR Hall of Fame inductee performs in cities such as Minneapolis, Denver, Seattle, Portland and LA... and many more! His fantastic songs will have you shedding a tear one minute, and dancing in the aisles the next. This is one of the fun ones...

Tuesday Tune Day - we feature one song from our catalog each week. Please listen and let us know what you think. All releases are available at 259records dot com. All killer... no filler.

02.04.14 TUESDAY TUNE DAY - MATT MAYS - "LOST SOULS"

"Lost Souls" by Matt Mays - It's no secret that this is my favorite song on Matt Mays + El Torpedo. This song helped me get through my time in intensive care... and Matt still dedicates this song to me whenever I am lucky enough to catch him in concert. One of my favorite memories is when Matt and the boys opened for Mike Ness of Social Distortion - who is in my top 5 favorite musicians of all time. Mike Ness is a fan of the album, and requested MMET to open for him in SoCal. I asked Matt to please play this song during his set... and while they were playing it, I looked over I saw Mr. Ness standing stage right nodding his head along to the music... and INTO it. Yeah... I cried. So what?

Tuesday Tune Day - we feature one song from our catalog each week. Please listen and let us know what you think. All releases are available at 259records dot com. All killer... no filler.

01.28.14 TUESDAY TUNE DAY - MY JERUSALEM - "HIT THE LIGHTS"

"Hit The Lights" by My Jerusalem - It is a real honor working with Jeff Klein. He is such a hard worker, great guy, and tremendously talented. Listen to the way this song moves from one feeling to another... building to an insane crescendo. Equal parts depressing and triumphant... quite an impressive feat. If you still haven't seen My Jerusalem live, they are always on the road. Go see them rock.

Tuesday Tune Day - we feature one song from our catalog each week. Please listen and let us know what you think. All releases are available at 259records dot com. All killer... no filler.

01.21.14 TUESDAY TUNE DAY - TANDY - "PERSON TO PERSON"

"Person To Person" by Tandy - I've talked at great length about my love of the album, To A Friend. "Person To Person" is the opening track of this album. Mike Ferrio's voice greets you like a welcoming friend. Then, when the lovely Ana Egge joins him in perfect unison, we are off on a journey: from walking in the moonlight to Baby Lemonade to Elmore James. Mike paints such a clear picture with so few words...

Tuesday Tune Day - we feature one song from our catalog each week. Please listen and let us know what you think. All releases are available at 259records dot com. All killer... no filler.

05.17.13 FRIDAY FRIEND DAY - PURPLE HEART BASEBALL

Our friend, Ernie Medina, founded a charity organization called Purple Heart Baseball. Tomorrow, May 18th, two teams of wounded Veterans will take the field at a professional ballpark - Angel Stadium - immediately following the game between the Angels and the White Sox. One team, comprised of primarily Army Soldiers, will be traveling from San Antonio to take on a local team from LA comprised of Marines for a three inning game. It is such an amazing idea... and such a worthy cause.

Friday Friend Day - we have lots of talented friends who are doing amazing things. We will brag about one each week. Please support our Veterans.

05.07.13 TUESDAY TUNE DAY - DANA FALCONBERRY - "BIRTHDAY SONG"

03.29.13 FRIDAY FRIEND DAY - JAY SMITH

Today's Friday Friend Day is dedicated to Jay Smith (1978-2013) - who passed away suddenly while on tour with Matt Mays this week. Jay would also back Willie Nile whenever Willie would gig in Halifax. Jay was an incredible guy with a sweet and powerful spirit. He was a mind-blowing musician, and could produce some of the best guitar tone I've ever heard. Finally, he was the master of the pun. I'm shocked to see how many other folks have mentioned this in their posts about Jay. My favorite memory is when Jay said he needed to check himself into "Elkoholics Anonymous" after eating some of Senior's famous spaghetti sauce made out of elk meat. Please consider donating to the Smith Family Trust - which has been set up to raise money for Jay's two beautiful children. Details are here: http://www.mattmays.com/

03.26.13 TUESDAY TUNE DAY - TOM OVANS - "AIN'T NO RIVER"

"Ain't No River" by Tom Ovans - we were thrilled to work with Tom Ovans = one of the world's great songwriting treasures... living quietly in Austin, TX. When folks talk about hidden gems - here is one of the best. His album, Party Girl, is amazing from start to finish. Fire, passion, rage, love, kindness... it's all here.

Tuesday Tune Day - we feature one song from our catalog each week. Please listen and let us know what you think. All releases are available at 259records dot com. All killer... no filler.

03.19.13 TUESDAY TUNE DAY - IAN MCLAGAN - "NEVER SAY NEVER"

03.08.13 FRIDAY FRIEND DAY - PAT TODD & THE RANK OUTSIDERS

Our good friend, Pat Todd, has been making stellar rock 'n' roll for years. Whether it was with The Lazy Cowgirls, or his current line-up, Pat Todd & The Rankoutsiders, Pat always defines what is truly cool. No frills, no fluff... just fun. Pat never stops writing great songs... and he is now giving away 4 new ones for free. The link is below...

03.02.13 FRIDAY FRIEND DAY - LANGUAGE OF A BROKEN HEART

Our friend Juddy Talt has a very cool indie film called Language of a Broken Heart opening in theaters on March 8. He plays a neurotic author who can write eloquently about the subject of love, but can't keep girls from leaving him. Oh... and it also features Music Supervision by Abe Bradshaw.

Friday Friend Day - we have lots of talented friends who are doing amazing things. We will brag about one each week. Please support independent film.

02.26.13 TUESDAY TUNE DAY - LEEROY STAGGER - "RED BANDANA"

"Red Bandana" by Leeroy Stagger. Another great surprise for us is when this beautiful song was used in Sons of Anarchy. I always loved this tune... and think it sounds like it could be an outtake from Lucinda Williams' album called Essence... which, of course, is a huge compliment to Leeroy's stellar songwriting talents.

Tuesday Tune Day - we feature one song from our catalog each week. Please listen and let us know what you think. All releases are available at 259records dot com. All killer... no filler.

02.19.13 TUESDAY TUNE DAY - TANDY - "HOME"

01.25.13 FRIDAY FRIEND DAY - LEMMY

Our buddy, Wes Orshoski, made the world famous (and ridiculously cool) documentary film, Lemmy, with co-director Greg Olliver. If you haven't seen it yet, it is an entertaining and heartwarming look at the Motorhead frontman, Lemmy Kilmister... and it features interviews and performances by some of the biggest names in heavy metal. The DVD was certified Gold... and you can even catch it on VH1 Classic. Wes is now hard at work on his rock doc follow-up focusing on the British punk legends, The Damned.

01.22.13 TUESDAY TUNE DAY - IVAN JULIAN - "A YOUNG MAN'S MONEY"

"A Young Man's Money" by Ivan Julian. Ivan was the founding member of one of the most important bands to emerge from the Bowery in the 70s, Richard Hell and the Voidoids. He also contributed to several other legendary groups and their recordings. He finally stepped into the spotlight on the first release under his own name... and it sounds as exciting and fresh as a teenage garage band.

01.15.13 TUESDAY TUNE DAY - LEEROY STAGGER - "LONG WAY HOME"

"Long Way Home" by Leeroy Stagger. How can a young guy like Leeroy write with such wisdom and talent? This may be our favorite song by him... but that title seems to change every day. Regardless, this song is a monster - both lyrically and musically.

Tuesday Tune Day - we feature one song from our catalog each week. Please listen and let us know what you think. All releases are available at 259records dot com. All killer... no filler.

01.11.13 FRIDAY FRIEND DAY - THE LIVING ROOM

We honestly can't count our many fond memories of amazing concerts and other priceless moments at The Living Room in the Lower East Side. Almost all of our artists have played this room... and we are looking forward to many more memories in their new location.

04.28.09 CLAY GEORGE RELEASED TODAY!!

We are pleased to announce the release of Clay George's self-titled new album on 00:02:59 today! Blending all of the best elements of Americana, folk, and blues with the romance and sentimentality of old-school country... Clay George's album is as warm and inviting as gently flowing river or your favorite pair of broken-in blue jeans. With the soothing grace and beauty of Clay's velvet voice soaring above an endless supply of catchy and hummable melodies, it is almost easy to overlook the intelligence and biting wit of his lyrics, and the overall genius of his songcraft. The end result is an incredible album from beginning to end that seems totally out of place, yet totally relevant and necessary, in 2009. Please take a moment to check out some song samples on this site and www.claygeorge.com

"Buy some speakers and a great amplifier and buy music that you can hold."

03.10.09 MY JERUSALEM DEBUT EP OUT TODAY

NEW BAND FEATURES MEMBERS OF THE GUTTER TWINS, GREAT NORTHERN & POLYPHONIC SPREE

They wandered their 40 years, collectively at least, through bands and projects that dried up to desert. Milk and honey, stale beer and cigarettes, it didn't matter - they found their Jerusalem when they found each other.

My Jerusalem met through critically acclaimed singer-songwriter Jeff Klein, who played with each of them in his travels as a solo artist. Jeff met guitarist Dave Rosser, a touring member of Twilight Singers, through producer Mike Napolitano. Bassist Ashley Dzerigian was in Great Northern and toured with Ed Harcourt. Drummer Cully Symington was in Bishop Allen and tracked The Gutter Twins album. Rick Nelson, who plays violin, viola, cello and keyboards in the band, is a longtime member of the Polyphonic Spree and St. Vincent.

"I didn't actually start out thinking of forming a band," Jeff says. "I'd played with all of them at different times, and I was like, 'How great would it be to play with all of these people at the same time?' And then when we did, it made perfect sense for that to be what we do. We clicked immediately."

"Once all of us got in the same room at the same time, I knew at that moment it had become very special to all of us," Rick concurs. "In many bands I have worked with, some musicians just don't listen to each other. They only pay attention to themselves. In My Jerusalem, we all interact. The end result is evident."

The band's debut EP Without Feathers will be released today on 00:02:59. My Jerusalem will celebrate the release week with shows in Cleveland, Cincinnati, Detroit and performances at Canadian Music Fest and SXSW.

09.30.08 THE HIGHLY ANTICIPATED DEBUT ALBUM FROM DANA FALCONBERRY RELEASED TODAY!!

OH SKIES OF GREY is one of those rare musical works that defies any immediate references and transcends the usual genre pigeonholes, prompting listeners to hear Falconberry on her own unique and highly engaging terms. And what you'll delightfully discover is a "voice [that] is a study in paradox: delicately soft yet powerfully dynamic, warmly inviting yet brazenly defiant, emotive yet wise beyond her years," as the Austin Chronicle observes. She applies that gift to "thoughtful, beautifully written songcraft," as the Chronicle puts it, citing her "astounding" songs rich with "achingly intimate narratives" and "brazen, bluesy power," among their many compelling qualities.

But rather than describe, categorize, parse or analyze Falconberry's musical and lyrical creations, it's best advised to just listen to oh skies of grey. And simply feel its effects on the heart, mind and soul, as such unfettered expressiveness and emotionality is how she creates music of such power and inescapable allure.

06.24.08 FIRST SCOTT KEMPNER SOLO ALBUM IN 16 YEARS RELEASED TODAY!

SCOTT KEMPNER (EX-DICTATORS, DEL-LORDS) FINISHES FIRST SOLO ALBUM IN 16 YEARS.

Saving Grace, due June 24 on 00:02:59, features Dion, Frank Funaro (Del-Lords), Mike Mesaros (Smithereens), Ed Greene and Bob Babbitt (Motown) and Ed Pettersen.

"This is a rock 'n' roll album . . . if that means anything to anyone anymore," says Scott Kempner of his forthcoming album Saving Grace (00:02:59, street date June 24, 2008). "It sure means something to me!" Kempner's rock 'n' roll career dates back 30 years to his stint as co-founder of The Dictators (when he was known as "Top Ten") and later the Del-Lords, who in turn inspired the comeback of Dion, with whom Kempner recorded as the Little Kings. That's a lot to look back on - and Kempner can reminisce with the best of 'em - but he is squarely focused on the present and the future.

"This album is the first record in my career that I feel 100% about," says the South Bronx native, who was born the year Elvis Presley recorded his first Sun Records single. "It's who I am, for better or worse." The album, his first solo work since 1992's Tenement Angels (which featured Springfield, Mo.'s mighty Skeletons), includes no other guitarists - Kempner plays all parts. However, he did surround himself with an array of kindred musicians: Del-Lords drummer Frank Funaro, Smithereens bassist Mike Mesaros, Chris and Mike Russo, Chris Amplo, and last but not least Dion, with whom he sings "Heartbeat of Time." Recorded mainly at Coyote Studios in Brooklyn's Williamsburg district, Saving Grace was co-produced by Kempner and Mike Caiati.

For two tracks - "Heartbeat of Time" and "Here Come My Love" - Kempner headed to Nashville's Java Jive to work with producer and friend Ed Pettersen (Song of America) and Bob Olhsson (former Motown engineer). These sessions featured Motown and Nashville session stalwarts Bob Babbitt, bass, and Ed Greene, drums. Kempner ended up with three albums' worth of material, the best of which he selected for Saving Grace.

01.08.08 IN MEMORY OF DREW GLACKIN 1963-2008 - MEMBER OF TANDY, THE SILOS, ETC, ETC.

We would like to take a moment to thank Drew Glackin for bringing so much happiness, talent and passion to the world. His spirit and his contributions to music will live on forever. Anyone who remembers his contagious smile will know that he would not want us to be sad about his passing... but we are, Drew.

When Drew was on stage, he exuded pure joy - and he was on stage a lot. He played in dozens of bands and was the master of dozens of instruments (on the last Tandy release alone, he is credited with playing electric guitar, bass guitar, Hawaiian lap guitar, lap steel, mandolin, mandocello, and singing vocals). Drew was very proud of his work with Tandy. A few months ago, I had a fantastic talk with him at the Lakeside Lounge, and he was telling me how happy he was that I was giving To A Friend a "real" release. "It is better than the White Album," he raved... and I agreed with him.

He is best known for his work with The Silos. We would like to post their message about Drew... they say it best:

It is with greatest sadness that we inform you of the passing of Drew Glackin.

He was unaware of an overactive thyroid condition that led to severe heart damage. He was surrounded by family and friends during his final days and hours and we are all still in a state of shock and disbelief.

Drew was adored around the world and his larger than life spirit and contagious jovial energy touched everyone he met, everywhere he went. He was a musician of the highest talent and made his mark in countless bands, record albums, and many thousands of live performances. He will be sorely missed and the memories of his music, his great humor, and his magnanimous generosity of spirit and love will be with us forever.

A fund will be set up to help his family with expenses and we will keep you informed of memorial concerts and events as they develop.

We will all keep Drew in our hearts,

Konrad, Rod and Walter.
